Summary of Position: The Architecture and Facility Management Department invites applications for a 9-month tenure track faculty position starting in academic year 2020-2021 at the assistant or associate level. The successful candidate will be instrumental in delivering the BS in Architecture and Sustainability program, as well as developing new offerings which may include a new B.Arch degree. The program is seeking colleagues who are disciplined, creative, and collegial and who are engaged in and enjoy teaching. The successful candidate will hold an accredited M.Arch degree or a B.Arch degree plus post-professional Master’s degree in a related field, complemented by experience in architectural practice. Preference will be given to candidates with prior teaching experience and architectural licensure. In addition to a solid background in practice, candidates should have a working knowledge and interest in sustainable design and digital applications. Candidates with specific expertise in one or more of the following areas are encouraged to apply: architectural design, sustainable design, integrated building design, building technology, digital representation and visualization, and/or digital fabrication. Candidates should be innovative in advancing these areas in both the studio and classroom.

Required Education: Accredited M.Arch degree or an accredited B.Arch degree plus post-professional Master’s degree in related field.  
Required Work Experience: Professional practice experience in architecture; minimum of 3 years.  
Required Licenses and Certifications:    
Additional Education/Experiences to be Considered: Architectural license or eligibility for licensure in US and/or Canada. Higher education teaching experience in subject areas of the Ferris AAS degree in Architectural Technology and the BS degree in Architecture and Sustainability, including junior and senior level design studios. Demonstrated expertise in REVIT (BIM). Demonstrated expertise in one or more of the following software tools: presentation software (PhotoShop, Illustrator, InDesign); 3D modeling software (SketchUp, 3DStudioMax, Rhino, FormIt or similar); and/or digital fabrication.  
Duties/Responsibilities: • Teach, and support of program activities, in the AAS and BS architecture degrees. Teaching includes architecture courses with specific focus on architectural design and digital presentation; construction documentation; sustainable building technology, materials, and systems.
• Teach full time during the 9-month academic year.
• Provide service to the program in the form of student advising, committee assignments and maintaining a minimum of four regular office hours per week.
• Perform duties in accordance with established University policies.
• Maintain professional currency.
• Support Facility Management program with the teaching of one or more classes per year as needed.
• Support and manage the Digital Center; maintain and operate digital center equipment.
• Sustain and manage the Small Town Studio through community outreach.
• The position reports to the Director of the School of Built Environment and requires a collegial working relationship with the other members of the Architecture and Facility Management Department, including the Program Coordinator. The university philosophy places excellence in teaching as its first priority while encouraging involvement in scholarly activity.
• Faculty members also have professional responsibilities which may include advising students, orientation and registration of students, participation in University committees, keeping regular posted office hours (which are scheduled at times convenient for students), and participation in traditional functions which have academic significance. Faculty members may be required to teach off-campus or in an on-line environment.

• Understanding of interrelationship of facility management and architecture, and interest in the promotion of both programs.
• Proficiency in industry-standard software.
• Understanding of and ability to integrate sustainable design and systems into architectural practice.
• Commitment to the mission of the program, school, and university and to the development and growth of the program.
• Customary and usual skills and abilities associated with practicing architecture and instructing college level students.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
