Advertised Salary: $24.21 hourly rate pursuant to the FSU and FSU Birkam Health Center Registered Nurses Unit/ Teamsters Local 214 Agreement  
FLSA: Non-Exempt

Summary of Position: Provide excellent health education and clinical nursing care through performing patient assessments, examinations, treatment activities and assisting staff providers in the treatment of patients. Other duties include developing and delivering health education, outreach and attending staff training programs and meetings. This is a 9 month, 4 day per week position with coverage expectations per the Registered Nurses contract.

Required Education: Associate Degree in Nursing – minimum

 
Required Work Experience: At least one year relevant nursing experience in a family/physician practice and/or urgent care and / or other medical clinic.

 
Required Licenses and Certifications: Current Registered Nurse License in good standing. Eligible to obtain a Michigan Registered Nurse License.

 
Additional Education/Experiences to be Considered: Bachelor of Nursing Preferred. Experience in EHR – Electronic Health Records system preferred.

 
Duties/Responsibilities: Administer immunizations, desensitizations and medications.

Assess patient needs, obtain histories, and examine patients.

Assist the doctors and other personnel.

Conduct counseling and testing for specific medical conditions such as HIV, and perform such counseling and testing on student who request it.

Conduct patient teaching.

Exercise excellent professional judgment.

Fit and instruct patients on use of orthopedic and other equipment.

Follow universal precautions, maintain clean work environment, following appropriate standards.

Initiate and maintain complete and accurate records, and documentation according to appropriate practice standards.

Observe strict confidentiality, privacy policies, and laws.

Operate standard office equipment.

Participate in staff conferences, and in service training programs

Perform physiotherapy and lab procedures.

Perform treatments and carry out orders.

Proficient in EMR and other computer software programs and willing to learn and stay up to date on EMR changes and upgrades.

Provide patient care.

Return patient telephone calls, etc.

Work with other university departments as needed.

Other duties may be assigned.

No formal supervisory responsibilities. However, some support and supervision of students seeking clinic internships in the BHC may be required.

Performs all duties in compliance with applicable University policies and procedures and state and federal law and requirements.

Reports directly to the Director of Health Services

Responsible for upholding HIPAA regulations by maintaining the confidentiality of designated information

Will work as a nursing unit / team with other nurse(s).

 
Skills and Abilities: Ability and willingness to conduct health education programs to students.

Communicate effectively with all client age groups, students, visitors, staff and faculty.

Execute proper judgment in nursing decision-making.

Interact with students and family members as well as co-workers and colleagues, in a cooperative, team-oriented manner.

Perform each job duty satisfactorily

Screen and triage ill and injured patients and make decisions regarding treatment and referral to other resources.

Work after regular office hours and in the summer, in conjunction with clinic needs and accordance with the provisions of the nursing contract.

Work at a fast pace in a busy office throughout the school year.
