Advertised Salary: $55,000-$62,000

Summary of Position: Provides responsible, independent, and complex secretarial services and administrative assistance to the Vice President for Diversity, Inclusion, and Strategic Initiatives  
Position Type: Staff  
Required Education: Satisfactory completion of at least two years of college study and at least three years of demonstrated work experience in a secretarial office environment. Experience with office machines and software such as Microsoft Office Suite. Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with students, faculty, staff, and visitors in a variety of situations.  
Required Work Experience: Three years of full-time demonstrated work experience in secretarial office environments.  
Required Licenses and Certifications:    
Additional Education/Experiences to be Considered: Experience in an administrative university office environment.  
Duties/Responsibilities: Perform a variety of office duties such as answering the telephone, scheduling appointments and meetings, typing, maintaining files, etc.

Provide relief for the Vice President from routine administrative details.

Work on multiple projects at the same time.

Work with Jim Crow Museum and Ferris Youth Initiative staff on various functions and projects.

Compose interpretive correspondence.

Assist in the preparation of budget material for the department.

Provide support for all major and minor office purchases, including collection of information and quotations and placing orders, and inventory. Initiate and prepare requisitions for supplies and services.

Provide and help coordinate the flow of information related to the Board, and external constituents.

Supervise student workers, for example, with the First Lady's Attic.

Represent the Vice President regarding matters of highly sensitive or confidential nature with limited authority as delegated.

Participate in various University committees.

Coordinate and participate with divisional and university-wide committees as assigned.

Directly responsible to the Vice President for Diversity, Inclusion, and Strategic Initiatives with emerging projects.

Perform additional clerical duties as assigned.



 
Skills and Abilities: Experience with office machines and software such as Microsoft Office Suite.

Communicate effectively both orally and in writing, with a variety of people.

Demonstrated ability to deal with stressful situations with diplomacy, professionalism, and accuracy.

Handle confidential material.

Maintain budget material.

Plan, organize, and make sound judgments.

Work cooperatively in a fast-paced, demanding atmosphere.
