Summary of Position: Join our NAEYC nationally accredited teaching team in providing supervision and education to children up to 5 years old. The Early Learning Center offers child-centered educational programming that meets all local, state, and national requirements. This position typically works Monday –Thursday 7am-4pm and Friday 8am-12 hrs. can fluctuate based on University calendar and classroom needs.

Required Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or closely related field as defined in the State of Michigan Licensing Regulations for Child Care Centers R. 400.8122. or the equivalency as detailed in the State of Michigan Licensing Regulations for Child Care Centers R. 400.8122 (6).

 
Required Work Experience: Two years work experience working in a structured early childhood environment. Ability to demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills. Demonstrate proficiency in managing challenging and/or stressful situations.

 
Required Licenses and Certifications: Current First-aid and CPR (child and adult) or ability to obtain by time of appointment

Additional Education/Experiences to be Considered:    
Essential Duties/Responsibilities: Teach and/or supervise the teaching of enrolled children utilizing “best practices” as outlined by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC)
Coordinate curriculum development and maintain center’s curriculum through developmentally appropriate lesson plans for assigned group and individual children.
Plan, participate in and maintain parent involvement activities which includes parent/teacher conferences
Enforce program policies and procedures by ensuring assigned classroom meets federal, state, local, and institutional requirements regarding health, sanitation, nutrition, safety, and educational requirements.
Maintain positive working relations with parents, staff, students, and a diverse community population.
Maintain center’s assessment process for each child in assigned age group including, but not limited to, anecdotal records, portfolios, evidence of learning, work sampling, and screening tools. Demonstrate the ability read, analyze, and interpret materials and utilize information to develop individualized and group learning experiences
Attend and actively participate in required staff meetings and in-service training sessions to meet State licensing and accreditation regulations.
Provide responsible leadership in promoting a team environment within the assigned classroom and center
Reports directly to program Manager.
Responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of designated information.
Responsible for the supervision, training, and evaluation of assigned staff within the area of responsibility.
Responsible to train, model and evaluate assigned staff on maintaining NAEYC’s Code of Professional Ethics.
Demonstrates an understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion, especially in working relationships with students, faculty, staff and community members.
Any other duties assigned within the position classification area.

Skills and Abilities: Create and conduct developmentally appropriate lesson plans for assigned classroom and children
Demonstrate excellent oral and written communications skills and the ability to work effectively with young children, students, co-workers, and parents
Demonstrate leadership skills in supervising assistant teachers, part-time and student staff
Plan, organize, and make sound judgments and decisions
Work with a diverse University and community population maintaining a professional, positive image reflecting the University’s vision and mission
Demonstrated commitment, experience and understanding for diversity, equity, and inclusion.
