Summary of Position: |
This position will supervise and coordinate the activities of assigned custodial personnel to maintain and provide quality custodial services for campus facilities. May be assigned to work any shift, including nights and weekends. The anticipated shift for this position will be M-F, 5:00 pm – 1:30 am. |

Additional Education/Experiences to be Considered: |
Associate’s degree in management or related area.
Supervisory experience within an educational institution, hospital, K-12 institutions, or commercial accounts. |

Essential Duties/Responsibilities: |
Supervise, train, schedule, evaluate and assign work to custodial employees including student workers. Instruct employees in the use of new products and equipment. Make rounds of assigned buildings to inspect custodial work and correct problems. Report necessary repairs and structural problems to the appropriate department. Assign jobs, maintain quality control, monitor work progress, and ensure that safety procedures are followed. Analyze jobs and work order requests to plan material, labor, and time requirements, and provide cost estimates when required. Meet with salespeople and vendors when necessary. Coordinate with other department supervisors for the expeditious completion of work. Schedule employee vacations, approve sick time requests, maintain overtime lists, and maintain electronic timekeeping systems for reporting purposes. Maintain records and prepare various reports as required. Maintain the safety and security of custodial storage areas and equipment. Attend meetings, write memos and letters as required. Attend seminars and technical writing to enhance knowledge and abilities. Administer and ensure compliance with work rules and the Union contract. Work flexible hours in order to respond to weekend and/or emergency call-ins. Report directly to the Manager of Custodial Services. Responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of designated information. Supervise and schedules custodial workload to assigned custodial staff. Carry out responsibilities in accordance with University policies and applicable laws. Demonstrates an understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion, especially in working relationships with students, faculty, staff and community members. Any other duties assigned within the position classification area. |

Skills and Abilities: |
Must be knowledgeable and proficient in modern custodial practices and procedures. Must possess working knowledge of OSHA requirements such as bloodborne pathogens precautions and safety requirements. Must possess effective communication skills both orally and in writing. Must be knowledgeable in the operation of computers and software applications. Must be able to effectively organize, schedule and supervise employees in the work force. Must be able to perform basic mathematical functions with accuracy. Must be able to evaluate the performance, adaptability and skill levels of job applicants and employees, understand and administer union contracts and be proficient in labor relations. Must be able to analyze job and work order requests to plan material, labor and time requirements and provide cost estimates. Must be able to work with a diverse group of employees, outside vendors and constituents. Must be able to work variable hours to include possible day, evening and/or weekend shifts. Demonstrated commitment, experience and understanding for diversity, equity, and inclusion. |
