Summary of Position: |
Assistant Athletic Director Sports Medicine — serving as the athletic department’s designated Health Care Administrator responsible for establishing and managing policies and procedures designed to prevent, treat, repair and rehabilitate athletic injuries. Oversee area’s annual operating budget, recruitment of team physicians and serve as department liaison to all medical services needed. Will work closely with coaches, administrators, athletes and parents in the process. |

Essential Duties/Responsibilities: |
Serve on the Athletic Director’s Senior Staff and provide overall daily oversight and direction of the Sports Medicine & Health Program designed to establish provide and implement policies and procedures that optimize the health and welfare of Ferris State’s student athletes Establish and enforce Ferris State, NCAA, GLIAC & CCHA policies and procedures directly related to the care, safety and overall welfare of student-athletes including but not limited to the prevention of athletic injuries Supervise student worker program wage employees, work study students, supplies and development budgets. Serve as the athletic department’s Health Care Administrator as required by the NCAA. Interview and recommend for hire and supervise assistant athletic trainers. Recruit, recommend for hire, train, supervise and schedule student athletic trainers. Coordinate the activities of (4) athletic training rooms and provide trainer staffing for Sports Camps. Maintain athletic training facilities, supplies and equipment. Evaluate, treat and rehabilitate athletic injuries, consulting with medical personnel, campus health center and coaches. Provide administrative oversight of the coordination of medical referrals and medical clearances. Schedule athletic trainer and student worker coverage of practice sessions and all events and competitions of athletic teams. Maintain accurate and up to date student-athlete medical records. Process athletic insurance claims and coordinate payment of athletic related medical expenses. Solicit quotes and make recommendations regarding athletic accident insurance coverage and premium on an annual basis. Provide oversight and coordination of physician and EMS coverage for home football, hockey, and post season events. Manages partnerships and agreements with Corewell Health, local chiropractor and dietician. Provide oversight and annual maintenance of CPR and First Aid certifications for all athletic trainers and coaches. Schedule CPR and First Aid re-certification for all staff. Provide administrative oversight of FSU’s Athletic Department Drug and Alcohol Education and Testing Program. Serve as NCAA drug testing site coordinator. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with University policies and applicable laws. Must be available by phone after hours and on weekends for emergencies and council. Reports directly to the Athletic Director and supervises 3 fulltime certified trainers. Responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of designated and protected student-athlete information and records. Serve as liaison to third party billing organization. Demonstrates an understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion, especially in working relationships with students, faculty, staff and community members. Support, promote, and develop student enrollment and retention initiatives. Any other duties assigned within the position classification area.

Skills and Abilities: |
Administer insurance program in conjunction with the department athletic insurance coordinator for payment of athletic related medical expenses. Communicate effectively and work with a diverse group of coaches, student athletes, parents and physicians. Evaluate physical abilities, extent of injuries, and required treatments. Provide oversight of administrative office responsibilities of sports medicine & health through proper delegation of responsibilities. Recommend and implement policies and procedures. Work independently. Demonstrated commitment, experience and understanding for diversity, equity, and inclusion. |
