Summary of Position: This position is responsible for performing all duties of the Print Operator as well as various higher level duties such as ensuring equipment is in good working order, ensuring machine supplies are ordered and stocked as needed, setting up and maintaining equipment and directing the Student Employees and setting up projects for print and performing graphic design work. This person has a positive outlook, communicates well, has a ‘can-do’ attitude, is a problem solver, detail oriented and works well alone and with others within a dynamic and often fast-paced environment.

 
Position Type: Staff  
Required Education: Associates Degree or equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered. Equivalency for education is two years’ related work experience equals one year of education.

 
Required Work Experience: Two years of work experiences in an office or print shop performing a variety of duplicating duties and customer service interactions. Prior experience managing details and multiple tasks. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

Additional Education/Experiences to be Considered: Certifications or extended experience using Adobe Creative Suite programs (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator) and Microsoft programs (Word, Excel, Publisher) and further graphic design education and experience. Certifications or experience with associated EFI programs such as various MIS systems, Web to Print programs and Print Integration software.  
Essential Duties/Responsibilities: - Properly interpret job specifications – notify manager or other team members in the case of inaccurate project specifications.
- Independently process a job to completion meeting timelines and deadlines.
- Uses MIS system and web to print offerings appropriately as required to complete projects and ensure accuracy in specifications and pricing.
- Prepare work for printing, utilizing the appropriate process with regard to the number of reproductions, quality desired, and budget.
- Perform complex set up using peripheral systems
- Knowledge of associated systems such as Fiery operations and higher print terminology and systems improvement are required to ensure Print Services is taking best advantage of available technology
- Perform set up and troubleshooting of complex print and bindery equipment
- Operate digital presses and large/wide format equipment as needed – other equipment as new offerings are developed
- Make simple copies for customers as needed.
- Clear jams and troubleshoot as needed – initiates service calls as necessary
- Operate all equipment needed to complete projects as needed including set up and maintenance of all associated bindery equipment.
- Understand how equipment integrates best and support such integration as much as possible.
- Recognize, analyze, trouble-shoot and make repairs to equipment. Contact service personnel, provide a detailed explanation of the problem and arrange for repair.
- Perform Regular maintenance and cleaning of all assigned equipment
- Operate and perform basic maintenance and repairs on specialized machinery.
- Assure the security of tests and confidential materials.
- Maintain the confidentiality of designated information.
- Assist with Input, retrieval, downloading, merging, output and maintenance of information to access various software programs and systems.
- Complex graphic design and print set up
- Set up of complex variable data and other software or machine setup as required.
- Contacts customers as needed to inform proofs and projects are complete
- Assist answering multi-line phones; assist in serving customers, and perform duties in a manner that provide excellent service and that is responsive to customer needs.
- Assist to open and/or close facility.
- Calculates and prepares quotations for prospective projects
- Performs periodic closeout and deposits
- Communicate effectively both in writing and verbally.
- Greet students, faculty, staff, visitors and/or clients and provide required assistance, or refer to proper source for assistance.
- Monitor department emails, initiate work orders, and respond to customer inquiries
- Schedule meetings and appointments with customers
- Organizes workload based on due dates and other factors to ensure projects are to bindery and complete in a timely manner.
- Assign, train and supervise student employees as needed
- Assists in directing and training other employees and students in their job requirements.
- Sets up equipment, coordinates service calls, orders paper, schedules workload, directs student assistants
- Work to assure the excellent quality and completion of the completed product.
- Assist in documenting and developing work processes
- Maintain, order and distribute adequate inventory and supplies
- Responsible for the quality of work completed.
- Monitors paper stock and material levels, orders paper and supplies as needed
- Build, monitor, adjust and document processes and procedures for all production steps and processes required.
- Review project instructions and job tickets, share improvements and needed corrections with others in a team-oriented positive manner
- Follows procedures and uses MIS system to effectively communicate with the organization regarding project status and work completed.
- Other duties as assigned
- Report directly to assigned supervisor.
- Carry out these responsibilities in accordance with University policies and applicable laws.
