Summary of Position: Ferris State University's Department of Humanities seeks applications for an instructor 3 to teach a full load of Communication courses for both the Fall and Spring semesters (4 sections each semester). This position will include teaching one or more sections of introductory Public Speaking. In addition, this position will also require the ability to teach one or more sections of Interpersonal Communication and/or Small Group Communication. There may be opportunities for teaching additional Communication courses in our curriculum, based on the department's needs and this instructor's qualifications and experience.

The start date of this position is August 2024.However, the candidate selected for the position must reside in Michigan after acceptance of employment.

Required Education: Master's in Communication or related field.  
Required Work Experience: Prior experience teaching Communication courses at the high school level or higher in Public Speaking.

Additional Education/Experiences to be Considered: Prior experience teaching Communication courses in higher eduction, preferred.

Prior experience teaching Communication courses at the high school level or higher in Interpersonal Communication, preferred.

Prior experience teaching Communication courses at the high school level or higher in Small Group Communication, preferred.
 
Essential Duties/Responsibilities: Teach four sections of Communication courses per semester. These courses will include introductory Public Speaking. Additional courses in Interpersonal Communication and/or Small Group Communication may also be included in the teaching load. There may be opportunities for teaching additional Communication courses in our curriculum, based on the department's needs and this instructor's qualifications and experience.

Faculty members also have professional responsibilities which may include: continuing professional development; participation in curriculum development and university committees; orientation; recruitment and registration of students; keeping regular posted office hours (which are scheduled at times convenient for students), and participation in traditional functions which have academic significance (ex. reporting initial student participation data and submitting final grades on time). Faculty may be required to teach off-campus or in an on-line environment.

Demonstrate an understanding of diversity, equity and inclusion, especially in working relationships with students, faculty, staff and community members.

Perform any other duties assigned within the position classification area.
