Summary of Position: The Head Golf Professional/Golf Course Manager oversees all aspects of golf operations, including merchandising, tournaments, events, and facility management, while supporting the Professional Golf Management (PGM) program's accreditation and educational goals. This role involves supervising staff, mentoring students, managing budgets, enforcing policies, and fostering relationships with the university, alumni, local businesses, and the golf industry. Key responsibilities include event coordination, program innovation, and delivering inclusive, high-quality service to diverse groups. Reporting to the Executive Director of Auxiliary Services, the manager ensures operational excellence, compliance with regulations, and continuous improvement through professional development, while working extended hours during the golf season to meet operational demands.

Required Education: Bachelor’s degree in Professional Golf Management, Business, Marketing, Accounting, or related field.  
Required Work Experience: Five years of recent, demonstrated experience as a Golf Professional and/or Director of Golf. Experience should include progressive/increased levels of responsibility and authority, demonstrated experience in the development of golf activities, managing staff and in delivering golf instruction to all age groups.  
Required Licenses and Certifications: Class “A” PGA member in good standing.

Additional Education/Experiences to be Considered: Bachelor's degree in Professional Golf Management from an accredited university.
Work experience in a public golf course setting.
Experience with providing lessons.
 
Essential Duties/Responsibilities: • Develop and implement strategic plans to enhance the golf course's operations, facilities, and overall customer experience while aligning with the university's long-term goals.
• Serve as a co-facilitator of the Katke Advisory Committee, providing expertise and guidance on operational improvements, strategic initiatives, and community engagement.
• Manage golf operations including merchandising, golf cars, tournaments, marketing, special events and rental space.
• Maintain golf operation as state-of-the-art learning laboratory for the PGM program.
• Assist the University Professional Golf Management program activities with PGA requirements of PGM degree.
•Attend weekly PGMSA meetings and support PGA Golf Management Program Accreditation process.
• Oversee and supervise all aspects of golf operation including golf camps, league play, tournament scheduling and activities, intercollegiate tournaments and intensive Professional Golf Management program playing requirements.
• Establish and maintain effective rapport within the university environment and its constituencies, such as area Chamber of Commerce, the golf industry and FSU alumni.
• Fiscal management including budget preparation and administration.
• Recruit, interview, select and supervise golf course staff in a positive and encouraging manner, pursuant to University process and procedures.
• Mentor PGA Golf Management students employed at Katke.
• Participate in selected professional associations and activities.
• Develop and oversee an innovative golf activities program that services all customer segments. Including but not limited to PGA Programs, PAT tournaments, and high school championships.
• Coordinate with appropriate personnel for catering all food and beverage needs through Founders Grill, including but not limited to banquets, outside events, tournaments, private events and all golf functions.
• Oversee the development of policies and procedures. Enforce and adhere to all golf operations policies, procedures and controls. Maintain accurate, current policy and training manuals.
• Perform all duties in compliance with applicable University policies and procedures and state and federal requirements.
• Reports directly to Executive Director of Auxiliary Services.
• Provides accurate and timely financial data to the university accounting department.
• Responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of designated information.
• Supervise golf course staff.
• Demonstrate excellent communication skills and work well with a diverse group of customers, students and staff.
• Support the teaching and learning process; actively work to create and support a student-centered environment. Provide flexible, responsive and high-quality service to all students, staff and community members, and seek continual improvement of current practices and procedures.
• Use a computerized point of sale system, and other software as needed. Ability to report sales and usage data on a timely basis.
• Work extended hours and days during the golf season; university holidays during the main golf season will be floating holidays.
• Seek out, develop and build new opportunities to increase use of facilities and generate revenue.
• Ability to multi-task adjusting to multiple demands, shifting priorities, and unexpected events. Accepting and open to new ideas and approaches to work.
• Use of effective problem-solving and decision-making skills to find and implement solutions.
• Operates university motor vehicles safely while carrying out job responsibilities.
