Summary of Position: |
The Social Work Department is accepting applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position. Duties include teaching across both the BSW and MSW curriculum, but primarily teaching in the MSW program at two sites in Michigan (Traverse City and Big Rapids) and online. Responsibilities include academic advising, off campus teaching, and contributing to the ongoing development of the Social Work Program and the Department of Social Work. The successful candidate must demonstrate excellence in teaching, the ability to work effectively with both faculty colleagues and students, and participation in other functions of academic significance. The start date for this position is August 2023. |

Required Work Experience: |
At least two years of post-MSW practice in Social Work by the time of appointment.
The successful candidate must demonstrate potential for higher education teaching excellence and the ability to work effectively with both the faculty and students. |

Applicants must be eligible and apply for Michigan Social Work Licensure upon appointment.

Additional Education/Experiences to be Considered: |
Doctorate in Social Work or related field is preferred.
Evidence of two or more years of teaching experience in social work, a strong clinical background, and evidence of expertise in mental health or gerontology.
Evidence of experience in trauma informed practice.
Evidence of ability to work effectively with diverse populations. |

Essential Duties/Responsibilities: |
Effective teaching by way of good communication, assessment of student learning, and adaptation to various levels of student preparation
Provide up-to-date coursework and course-related materials.
Use teaching-related technologies when determined appropriate.
Maintain a safe and engaging learning environment.
Teach courses in both the BSW and MSW curriculum at two sites, Traverse City and Big Rapids.
Direct field instruction coordination as assigned.
Carry out academic advising responsibilities.
Contribute to the ongoing development of the Social Work program and the Social Work Department.
Directly responsible to the Department Chair of Social Work. Responsibilities include maintaining the confidentiality of designated information and performing duties in compliance with applicable policies and procedure.
Faculty members also have professional responsibilities which may include advising students, orientation and registration of students, participation in University committees, keeping regular posted office hours (which are scheduled at times convenient for students), and participation in traditional functions which have academic significance. Faculty members may be required to teach off-campus or in an on-line environment.
Demonstrates an understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion, especially in working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.
Any other duties assigned within the position classification area. |
