Summary of Position: |
Adjunct faculty may teach one course, or a variety of courses. Assignments may be lectures or labs; face-to-face, blended or online in Big Rapids. A focus on student success, office hours and use of current technology are expected.
This is a pooled position. One or more applicants may be hired as needed to teach classes on a semester-by-semester basis.
This posting is being used for face to face and/or online instruction. However, the candidate selected for the position must reside in Michigan after acceptance of employment. |

Required Education: |
Faculty Qualification by Credential: The standard to teach college credit courses at the associate degree level (1xx-2xx) is a bachelor's degree (or higher) in field or closely related field. The standard to teach college credit courses at the baccalaureate level (3xx-4xx) is a master's degree (or higher) in field or closely related area or a master's degree and 18 graduate hours in field. Faculty Qualification by Tested Experience: The following combination of education and experience shall be considered to teach at the associate's level (1xx-2xx): 1. a bachelor's degree or higher out of field and an associate's degree in field and 5 years of relevant industry experience. 2. a bachelor's degree out of field and 7 years of relevant industry experience. 3. an associate's degree in field and 7 years of relevant industry experience.
The following combinations of education and experience shall be considered to teach at the baccalaureate level (3xx-4xx): 1. a master's degree or higher-level degree out of field with at least one bachelor's or associate's degree in field and 5 years of relevant industry experience directly related to the course taught. 2. a bachelor's degree in field and 7 years of relevant industry experience directly related to course taught; or, an associate's degree in field and any baccalaureate degree and 7 years of relevant industry experience. |

Essential Duties/Responsibilities: |
Meet established course outcomes. Plan, deliver and grade all course content and student work for assigned courses. Conduct all classes, labs or other assignments as directed in a professional manner. Position may entail full-time or part-time teaching loads and related activities based upon program need. Attendance at organizational meetings of the program, school or college is highly recommended. Close consultation with program faculty, as well as training via university-provided programs (where appropriate). Approved adjuncts who have not received appointment will be asked to provide a minimum of one lecture or lab delivery per academic year as a demonstration of their interest and an opportunity for adjunct faculty development preparation. Maintain a minimum of one hour per week per course section for office hours to meet with students outside of class or lecture at a time convenient to the students. Demonstrates an understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion, especially in working relationships with students, faculty, staff and community members. Faculty members also have professional responsibilities which may include but are limited to: keeping regular posted office hours (which are scheduled at times convenient for students) and participation in traditional functions which have academic significance (ex. reporting initial student participation data and submitting final grades on time). Faculty may be required to teach off-campus or in an online environment. Any other duties assigned within the position classification area. |
