Summary of Position: Primary responsibilities include: providing classroom and lab instruction in the medical laboratory science program; maintaining regular posted office hours that are scheduled at times convenient for students; participating in program meetings; and developing and maintaining skills in a variety of teaching/learning methodologies including online course instruction.
This is a pooled position. One or more applicants may be hired as needed to teach classes on a semester-by-semester basis.
This posting is being used for face to face and/or online instruction. However, the candidate selected for the position must reside in Michigan after acceptance of employment.
The anticipated start date of this position is January 2023.

Required Education: BS in Clinical Laboratory Science or related field.  
Required Work Experience: 2 years of experience working in a clinical lab.  
Required Licenses and Certifications: Certification as MT (ASCP) or NCA (CLS).

Additional Education/Experiences to be Considered: Previous experience teaching immunohematology, clinical chemistry, and/or specimen collection in a NAACLS accredited MLS program.  
Essential Duties/Responsibilities: Teach courses as assigned by the department chair.
Collaborate with other faculty to review/revise curriculum.
Participate in assessment of student learning.
Develop/revise instructional materials.
Maintain scheduled classes and office hours.
Adhere to policies of the college and university.
Work collaboratively with faculty to promote and improve programs.
Demonstrates an understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion, especially in working relationships with students, faculty, staff and community members.
Any other duties assigned within the position classification area.
Faculty members also have professional responsibilities which may include but are not limited to: keeping regular posted office hours (which are scheduled at times convenient for students), and participation in traditional functions which have academic significance (ex. reporting initial student participation data and submitting final grades on time). Faculty may be required to teach off-campus or in an on-line environment.
 
Marginal Duties/Responsibilities:    
Skills and Abilities: Demonstrated commitment, experience and understanding for diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Travel to assigned sites for course work or practical experience.
Control small pieces of laboratory equipment such as pipettes and
inoculating loops, and make sensitive adjustments to laboratory
instruments.
Use an electronic keyboard to operate instruments and to calculate, record,
evaluate, and transmit information.
Use equipment and instruments according to manufacturer’s guidelines and
established institutional protocols.
Maneuver phlebotomy and culture acquisition equipment to collect valid
laboratory specimens from patients safely.
