Summary of Position: |
The Physical Sciences Department seeks applications for an Assistant Professor of Physics. Duties include teaching undergraduate physics lectures and labs along with oversight of a small observatory, as well as teach astronomy lectures and labs, if qualified.
The successful candidate must provide evidence of a strong commitment to undergraduate education, potential for teaching excellence, effective communication skills, and the interpersonal skills to work with a diverse array of students and colleagues.
The start date of this position is August 2023. |

Additional Education/Experiences to be Considered: |
• Graduate coursework in astronomy. • Recent teaching experience at the introductory undergraduate level in physics or astronomy. • Prior experience in working with undergraduate students on non-classroom projects, including research projects. |

Essential Duties/Responsibilities: |
Teaching undergraduate physics lectures and laboratories. In addition, if qualified, duties also include the oversight of a small observatory, as well as the teaching of astronomy lectures and labs.
Faculty members also have professional responsibilities which may include advising students, orientation and registration of students, participation in University committees, keeping regular posted office hours (which are scheduled at times convenient for students), and participation in traditional functions which have academic significance (ex. reporting initial student participation data and submitting final grades on time).
Faculty members may be required to teach off-campus or in an on-line environment.
Demonstrates an understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion, especially in working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.
Any other duties assigned within the position classification area. |
