Summary of Position: This position is responsible for placing all Ferris pre-student and student teachers (required clinical experiences) in east Michigan locations, including Flint, Lansing, Metro Detroit, Saginaw/Bay/Midland, and building extensive relationships with Early Childhood (Infant Toddler through Pre-K) programs and K-12 schools. Responsible for recruiting and retaining Ferris Early Childhood and Elementary Education students throughout East Michigan. This position is expected to lead introductory courses, facilitate Seminar meetings, supervise student teachers as needed, and hold office hours at various Ferris Statewide locations.

This is a renewable two-year temporary assignment. The anticipated start date for this position is January 2024. However, this is an estimated date and can be revised if needed.

Required Work Experience: Three or more years of documented experience teaching in a K-12 environment.
Demonstrated experience designing and implementing academic partnerships.
 
Required Licenses and Certifications: State of Michigan Teaching Certificate (active or expired)

Additional Education/Experiences to be Considered: Prior college-level (postsecondary) teaching experience.
Prior experience working in higher education student services.
Demonstrated knowledge of non-traditional and adult learners.

 
Essential Duties/Responsibilities: Student Teaching
- Place and supervise pre-student teachers and student teachers.
- Assist in hiring and training student teacher supervisors.
- Coordinate student-teacher supervisor assignments each semester.
- Assist in monitoring and maintaining demographic data for all field experiences.
- Resolve issues with students and placements.
- Schedule and facilitate placement-related orientation and seminar meetings.
- Teach introductory courses and sessions as needed.
- Keep abreast of state and local laws as they affect Michigan certification.
- Maintain accurate, complete, and confidential records.

Recruitment and Relationships
- Recruit students for teacher education programs.
- Serve as primary liaison for Ferris Statewide-East Michigan with the School of Education; active engagement includes attendance at recruitment and promotional events, serving on advisory boards, outreach to Career Centers, ISD’s and RESA’s to create partnerships, presentations to business leaders and education agencies, education-related conference attendance and presentations, and relationship building with Community College and School District partners.
- Travel to foster relationships within Early Childhood and K-12 School Districts within East Michigan and travel related to student-teacher supervision will be required.
- Attend department meetings and training programs in Big Rapids or other regional locations.
- Work collaboratively with the School of Education Director, faculty, Coordinator of Student Teacher Placement, and Education Advisor.

- Report to Director, School of Education and Executive Director, East Michigan Operations and Strategic Initiatives.
- Any other duties assigned within the position classification area.
- Demonstrate an understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion, especially in working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.
 
Marginal Duties/Responsibilities: - Assist in developing, maintaining and implementing efficient procedural policies, instructing faculty and staff in methods, procedures and policies to be followed.

- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent networking and human relations skills (e.g., coalition building).
- Knowledge of computer programs and ability to adapt to new technology applications. (Microsoft Outlook, Canvas Learning Management System, Ellucian Banner, etc.)
- Demonstrated commitment, experience, and understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
