Summary of Position: |
The Assistant Manager assists the Manager with day-to-day operations of the campus store, including the administration of the textbook and course material ordering program offered in partnership with the contracted online textbook partner. The Assistant Manager assists in the administration of operational policies, procedures and processes along with merchandise receiving, data entry, merchandising, and the stocking of products. This position assists with the training and supervision of student and part-time staff and is responsible for all store activities in the absence of the Campus Store Manager. |

Essential Duties/Responsibilities: |
Provides efficient and knowledgeable customer service in person and by phone, and resolves all store issues.
Assists customers with purchases at the cash register, on the sales floor, and via email and processes online orders.
Responsible for store opening and closing, cash reconciliation, and preparation of bank deposits.
Assists in maintaining accurate inventory through proper and timely merchandise receiving processes.
Leads the virtual course material program offered in partnership with contracted online textbook partner, including assisting faculty and students with ordering, distribution of in-store pickup orders, and working closely with textbook partner’s Account Manager.
Ensures proper use of POS and inventory management systems to maintain accurate inventory, using proper receiving, invoice payment, accounts receivable, and customer sales processes, including managing e-commerce order activity.
Supervises part-time and student staff as assigned. Determines work schedules and assignments to ensure efficient store operations.
Assumes supervision of all store operations and staff in the absence of the store manager. In cooperation with Human Resources, assists the store manager with the hiring, evaluation and training of part-time and student staff. Recommends disciplinary action as needed.
Performs stock work and merchandising activities including visual displays.
Assists with marketing, promotions, and events, supporting excellent campus relationships.

Works to ensure timely response to emails, jobs etc. Assist in job management and creation of new material and ideas. Performs reconciliation to all bookstore charges to student accounts, Ferris Outfitters charges to student accounts and other reconciliation as needed.
Reports directly to the Manager of the campus store.
Demonstrates an understanding of diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging, especially in working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.
Support, promote, and develop university student enrollment and retention initiatives.
Any other duties assigned within the position classification area.

Represent the unit and division as a member of University committees as appropriate.

Skills and Abilities: |
Carries out responsibilities in accordance with University policies and applicable laws.
Knowledge of marketing and promotional development, including effective use of social media.
Proven experience in cash handling, POS systems, and inventory management systems. Ability to organize and direct physical inventory activities.
Possess excellent organization skills and the ability to prioritize combined with strong problem solving, troubleshooting, and decision-making skills to find and implement solutions.
Ability to multi-task adjusting to multiple demands, shifting priorities, and unexpected events. Accepting of new ideas and approaches to work.
Advanced verbal and written communication skills with the ability to maintain effective working relationships with customers, store staff, campus administration or other stakeholders, faculty, and other colleagues.
Strong technology aptitude and demonstrated knowledge of Purchasing, Inventory Control and POS Systems.
Basic mathematical skills with the ability to compute cost and sales margins, reconcile cash and sales receipts.
Ability to work a flexible work schedule including weekends as needed and as dictated by the campus and business cycle.
