Summary of Position: |
The Director of Student-Athlete Academic Success at Ferris State University provides comprehensive academic support and leadership for student-athletes participating in the 17 NCAA and GLIAC/CCHA-sanctions sports. Reporting to the Senior Associate Athletic Director, this position works closely with the Coordinator of Compliance and Student-Athlete Success and the Athletic Learning Specialist to ensure academic excellence and NCAA compliance for over 400 student-athletes. The position will support students across multiple varsity sports, monitor academic progress, and assist with course registration and degree planning. The Director will coordinate faculty progress reports (EAB), manage academic feedback systems for academically vulnerable students, and work with the registrar’s office in timely and accurate reporting of eligibility certification. The position will collaborate with coaches, faculty, and campus departments to promote student-athlete success and retention while connecting student-athletes with available campus resources at FSU and maintaining compliance with NCAA, GLIAC/CCHA, and institutional regulations. This is a temporary 5 year position. |

Essential Duties/Responsibilities: |
• Participates as an integral member of the eligibility certification team in coordination with the registrar’s office • Provides academic support services primarily to upper classmen student-athletes by coordinating advising meetings and maintaining consistent contact with the assigned student-athletes. Additionally, maintains consistent contact with coaches of assigned student-athletes concerning all aspects of the student-athlete’s academic progress and eligibility. • Monitor, interpret, and apply University, GLIAC, and NCAA rules and policies as it relates to certifying academic progress toward degree requirements for all continuing student-athletes • Review and analyze transfer evaluations to determine the NCAA eligibility of incoming and current student-athletes. • Maintain detailed student-athlete records for eligibility certification and NCAA reporting. • Provide academic data for NCAA and GLIAC reporting requirements as needed, such as the GSR and ASR reports. • Provide detailed student-athlete reports to various constituents upon request, such as full-time enrollment verification, GPA, course registration, eligibility needs, summer credit requirements, students who must declare a primary, mid-term, and final semester grade, etc. • Represent the FSU Athletics compliance office with other athletic department constituencies and cross-campus partners, including the registrar's office, academic deans, and instructional and Primary-Role advisors in the colleges, admissions, institutional research, international student services, and any other relevant department within the University. • Cultivates an environment of belonging that values, respects, supports, and celebrates individual similarities and differences, allowing students, faculty and staff to thrive authentically. • Support, promote, and develop university student enrollment and retention initiatives. • Any other duties assigned within the position classification area. |
