Summary of Position: |
The Assistant Manager assists the Manager with day-to-day operations of both campus stores (Big Rapids & Grand Rapids), including the administration of the textbook and course material ordering program offered in partnership with the contracted online textbook partner. The Assistant Manager assists in the administration of operational policies, procedures and processes along with merchandise receiving, data entry, merchandising, and the stocking of products. This position assists with the training and supervision of student and part-time staff and is responsible for both store activities in the absence of the Campus Store Manager. |

Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Equivalency for education is two years of work experience equals one year of education. |

At least one year of prior experience in a retail environment with a supervisory role including sales, cash handling, point of sale systems, inventory and merchandise management experience. |

|
Essential Duties/Responsibilities: |
Leads the virtual course material program offered in partnership with contracted online textbook partner, including assisting faculty and students with ordering, distribution of in-store pickup orders, and working closely with textbook partner’s Account Manager.
Performs reconciliation to all bookstore charges to student accounts and other reconciliation as needed.
Ensures proper use of POS and inventory management systems to maintain accurate inventory, using proper receiving, invoice payment, accounts receivable, and customer sales processes, including managing e-commerce order activity.
Supervise student employees including recommending for hire, training, scheduling, and timekeeping responsibilities.
Assumes supervision of both store operations and staff in the absence of the store manager. Reports directly to the Manager of Ferris Outfitters.
Coordinates processes with the Manager of the Ferris Outfitters retail operation and other FSU Administration and Finance areas.
Use various software tools and systems in support of store operations, train others on the use of these systems and develop and maintain appropriate procedures for the use of these systems.
Perform daily sales and cash handling including opening and closing procedures, deposits as needed, and related duties.
Manage inventory of both stores to include: purchasing, pricing, consignment contracts, wholesale orders, and merchandise displays.
Monitor sales, inventory, and other financial performance goals against budget, prior history, and other benchmarks, including monthly financial reporting.
Proactively influences merchandise assortment, identifying collaborative partnership opportunities, analyzing customer and campus needs, and providing timely feedback with merchandise sourcing resources.
Cultivates an environment of belonging that values, respects, supports, and celebrates individual similarities and differences, allowing students, faculty and staff to thrive authentically.
Support, promote, and develop University student enrollment and retention initiatives.
Operates university motor or personal vehicles safely while carrying out job responsibilities.
Any other duties assigned within the position classification area. |

Represent the unit and division as a member of University committees as appropriate.

Skills and Abilities: |
Carries out responsibilities in accordance with University policies and applicable laws.
Proven experience in cash handling, POS systems, and inventory management systems. Ability to organize and direct physical inventory activities.
Possess excellent organization skills and the ability to prioritize combined with strong problem solving, troubleshooting, and decision-making skills to find and implement solutions.
Ability to multi-task adjusting to multiple demands, shifting priorities, and unexpected events.
Advanced verbal and written communication skills with the ability to maintain effective working relationships with customers, store staff, campus administration or other stakeholders, faculty, and other colleagues.
Basic mathematical skills with the ability to compute cost and sales margins, reconcile cash and sales receipts.
Ability to work a flexible work schedule including weekends as needed and as dictated by the campus and business cycle.
