Summary of Position: Ferris State University's Kendall College of Art and Design (KCAD) in Grand Rapids, MI prepares artists and designers to have impact through practice. Responsibilities for a KCAD adjunct faculty member include syllabus and class preparation, instruction during scheduled course time, providing reasonable availability to students for consultation, and assistance with respect to assigned course(s), and evaluation of student performance. While not required of adjunct faculty, the Master of Architecture program values the contribution of all faculty members through participation in program meetings and activities.

The KCAD Master of Architecture was established in 2014 and achieved NAAB accreditation in 2019. Situated within an art and design college, and located in the center of Grand Rapids, the program emphasizes architecture’s cultural significance and values interdisciplinary connections and community engagement. Its curriculum is structured around a unique sequence of immersive seminars paired with design studios.

The program is seeking candidates to teach an in-person design studio course (with a systems integration focus) in Spring 2026. Courses are to be taught in person on Ferris State University's KCAD campus in Grand Rapids, MI. The candidate(s) selected for the position must reside in Michigan after acceptance of employment and will perform duties at a Ferris/KCAD site.
This position is part-time and may lead to renewal for future teaching opportunities.

The anticipated start date of this position is January 2026.

Required Education: A professional M.Arch or B.Arch degree or their international equivalent.  
Required Work Experience: Three years of experience in professional practice and/or teaching in architecture and related fields.

Demonstrated professional track record of excellence in built projects.
Demonstrated record of scholarly and creative projects.
 
Essential Duties/Responsibilities: Prepare syllabus and class according to college standards and distribute syllabi.
Teach appropriate course(s) as assigned.
Assess and evaluate student learning and provide formative feedback throughout the course.
Provide reasonable availability to students for consultation and assistance with respect to assigned course(s).
Evaluate student performance.
Contribute to the intellectual life of the Master of Architecture program.
Maintain effective communication with students and colleagues.
Work collaboratively with faculty, students, and staff throughout the college.
Faculty members also have professional responsibilities, which may include but are not limited to keeping regular posted office hours (which are scheduled at times convenient for students) and participation in traditional functions which have academic significance (i.e. reporting initial student participation data and submitting final grades on time). Faculty may be required to teach off-campus or in an on-line environment.
Cultivate an environment of belonging that values, respects, supports, and celebrates individual similarities and differences, allowing students, faculty, and staff to thrive authentically.
Support, promote, and develop University student enrollment and retention initiatives.
Any other duties assigned within the position classification area.
