Advertised Salary: Room and Meal Plan (when available) along with a $500.00 per academic year stipend  
Summary of Position: The Senior Staff Advisor (SSA) is a live-in, paraprofessional staff member of the Office of Housing and Residence Life. The SSA is responsible for performing responsibilities provided in the Resident Advisor or Community Advisor (RA/CA) position as needed. Additionally, they will have the opportunity to work up to 24 hours (20 hours for International Students) per week as a Desk Service Assistant in their community, or up to 20 hours a week at another on campus job.  
Position Requirements:

- The Office of Housing and Residence Life looks for candidates who have demonstrated the ability to meet and exceed the expectations of their previous Resident Advisor or Community
- Advisor position, have worked with the Office of Housing and Residence Life for at least two semesters as a Resident Advisor or Community Advisor, and maintain a 2.5 cumulative GPA as well as a 2.3 semester GPA.
- 10 month position, running from August to May.
-Applicants may not be enrolled in internships, clinical or practicum experiences, participate in student teaching, be enrolled in the police academy, or have any academic commitments which take them off campus for significant amounts of time while employed as a Senior Staff Advisor.

 
Essential Duties/Responsibilities: - Student Staff must be full-time students (minimum of 12 credits and maximum of 18 credits for undergraduate; or 9 credits for graduate students) or at the discretion of the Assistant Director of Residential Programs and Services.
- Student Staff must have a minimum of two semesters (i.e., fall and spring semester) of on-campus living at Ferris State University; or a minimum of one complete semester living on campus at Ferris for transfer students at the time of application, within the previous 5 years. This can include the semester of application.
- Student Staff must be in good academic and disciplinary standing with the University.
- Student Staff must maintain a schedule which ensures student contact – particularly during evening and weekend hours.
- Student Staff must attend weekly staff meetings and department training on Mondays from 8:00 pm to 10:30pm. Additional meeting times may be required.
- The SSA assumes a number of administrative, programmatic, desk, and leadership responsibilities for the staff team and within the community, which can include, but are not limited to:
• developing, approving, and tracking the programmatic efforts of student staff;
• coordinate all-hall/community programs;
• holding 1:1s with RA/CA and desk service assistants on as needed basis;
• administering recognition for their community’s student staff;
• managing and coordinating all desk operations;
• Managing desk, programming supplies, and budget;
• peer management of desk service assistants;
• assist hall director with limited corrective action of RA/CA;
• implementing and facilitating staff development activities during training and meetings;
• serving as second-in-command during community opening and closing periods, front
• desk emergency response, conflict resolution within staff, and other campus emergency
• situations;
• coordinate duty scheduling for RA/CA of the building;
• Maintain a significant presence on the Senior Staff committee.
