Summary of Position: • Responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to; providing responsible teaching, supervision, and management of the GSRP blended classroom in conjunction with overall Center policies and procedures.

Required Education: All candidates must be at least 19 years of age and have a high school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED). In addition candidates must meet one of the approved options (A, B or C) as defined in rule R 400.8210 (5) and (6) found in the MiLEAP Child Care Licensing Rules

Option A:1 year of experience and 3 hours of MiRegistry approved training in each of the following: (a) Program Management. (b) Observation, documentation, and assessment. (c) Teaching and learning. AND 6 hours of MiRegistry approved training in any of the following areas: (a) Interactions and Guidance, (b) Challenging Behaviors, (c) Trauma Informed Practices. Or
Option B: 6 months minimum experience and 6 semester hours, 9 CEUs, or a combination to equal 90 clock hours of coursework in: Child Care Administration, Early Childhood Education, Child Development, A Child-Related Field. Up to 30 hours of MiRegistry approved training may be used to meet these requirements. OR Option C: 6 months minimum experience and One of the following: A valid child development associate credential, Montessori credential, Infant Family Associate Credential, Associate degree or higher in any field of study. AND 3 hours of MiRegistry approved training in each of the following: (d) Program Management. (e) Observation, documentation, and assessment. (f) Teaching and learning. AND 6 hours of MiRegistry approved training in any of the following areas: (d) Interactions and Guidance. (e) Challenging Behaviors. (f) Trauma Informed Practices.
 
Required Work Experience: • Two years work experience working in a structured early childhood environment.
• Demonstrated proficiency in managing challenging and/or stressful situations.
 
Required Licenses and Certifications: • Current First-aid and CPR (child and adult) or ability to obtain by time of appointment.

Additional Education/Experiences to be Considered: • Previous work experience in a state and/or federally funded early childhood program.
• Associate degree or higher in Early Childhood Education or Child-Related field as defined in the MiLEAP Child Care Licensing Rules: Child-related field” means one of the following:
• For an early childhood education program director, administrator, program staff member, lead teacher, academic courses in:
• elementary education,
• child guidance,
• child counseling,
• child psychology,
• family studies,
• environmental or outdoor education,
• social work, or
• special education
 
Essential Duties/Responsibilities: • Ensure all Center and GSRP regulations are upheld in all areas of classroom operations.
• Monitor, and report parent involvement and in-kind contributions.
• Support the development and implementation of an anti-biased and culturally sensitive curriculum based in NAEYC "best practices".
• Conduct assessment practices including observation, anecdotal notes, screening, child portfolios, outcomes, and goals.
• Participate in family engagement for assigned classroom such as; special events, Brightwheel parent communication tool, newsletters, zoom meetings, etc.
• Conduct plans made with GSRP Lead Teacher and Family Support Specialist, families, and outside agencies to support children with special needs.
• Participate in a minimum of 2 home visits, and 2 parent conferences per child each academic year.
• Supervise, train, coach, and evaluate assigned classroom personnel in absence of Lead Teacher.
• Maintain updated MiRegistry membership and required annual training.
• Reports directly to GSRP Lead Teacher.
• Cultivates an environment of belonging that values, respects, supports, and celebrates individual similarities and differences, allowing students, faculty and staff to thrive authentically.
• Support, promote, and develop university student enrollment and retention initiatives.
• Any other duties assigned within the position classification area.
 
Marginal Duties/Responsibilities: • Maintain positive working relationships with academic programs participating in center activities by providing observation opportunities.
• Demonstrate proficiency in managing challenging and/or stressful situations.
• Represent center and University at community functions.
 
Skills and Abilities: • Conduct developmentally appropriate lesson plans for assigned classroom and children.
• Demonstrate excellent oral and written communications skills and the ability to work effectively with young children, students, co-workers, and parents.
• Demonstrate proficiency in managing challenging and/or stressful situations.
• Demonstrate successful experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
• Ability to be a part of a team-focused environment, using sound decisions and judgements.
• Demonstrate excellent oral and written skills.
• Maintain excellent attendance and timeliness in meeting deadlines.
