Summary of Position: Responsible for the management of the academic tools, equipment, supplies and facilities required to assure the most efficient and effective educational experience for the students of the College of Engineering Technology. Support the college’s instructional objectives within these environments to assure safe, relevant and effective learning. Prepare and maintain all applicable records and files. Implement necessary policies and procedures relative to maintain compliance with applicable governing bodies.

The anticipated start date for this position is January of 2023. However, this is an estimated date and can be revised if needed.

Required Education: 1. Associates Degree in a field related to the responsibilities of the position and two years of relevant industry experience OR
2. Journeyman status in a field related to the responsibilities of the position and five years of relevant industry experience.

Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered. Equivalency for education is two years of full-time related work experience equals one year of education.
Required Work Experience: Industry experience related to labs being managed.

Required Licenses and Certifications: Valid Michigan driver's license.

Additional Education/Experiences to be Considered: Specialized training in a related field such as computer networks and services (including backup and restoration of computer systems), installing/maintaining software and software licenses, electronics, hydraulics or facilities engineering.  
Essential Duties/Responsibilities: Oversee and stock applicable central stores.
Manage the laboratory tools and equipment – order parts, repair, maintain inventory.
Coordinate any necessary outside repair service(s) as needed.
Acquire specialized supporting tools or equipment as applicable.
Interview, hire, train and manage student workers as required.
Control fixed assets inventory and maintain inventory of all laboratory used items.
Coordinate the delivery, housing and removal of equipment and supplies.
Assure compliance with all safety, equipment and facility codes and regulations.
Be trained in and keep current in first aid procedures including CPR and AED.
Assist/instruct faculty/staff in proper operation of equipment and use of supplies.
Serve as liaison to internal (FSU) and external (contractor/industry) technicians or suppliers.
Serve as coordinator for building emergency and safety functions.
Maintain and update records, computer files and software as applicable.
Assure the proper storing, handling and disposal of hazardous waste materials.
Coordinate any recycling efforts as applicable within the laboratory facilities.
Practical experience in successful problem solving and efficient/effective solution implementation.
Demonstrates an understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion, especially in working relationships with students, faculty, staff and community members.
Any other duties assigned within the position classification area.
Marginal Duties/Responsibilities: Contact technical representatives and salesmen as necessary.
Serve on committees as assigned.
Skills and Abilities: Ability to travel to various schools, donor sites, etc. as needed.
Ability to read and interpret diagrams, schematics, blueprints, and electronic circuitry.
Competence in computer programmable logic controllers (PLC) within the realm of all equipment.
Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Ability to work with faculty, staff, students and outside contacts.
Safely operate all machinery within area of responsibility.
Demonstrated commitment, experience and understanding for diversity, equity and inclusion.
