Summary of Position: The Department of Construction Technology & Management invites applications for a 9-month, tenured-track faculty position at the Assistant or Associate Professor Level. Primary responsibilities include teaching and advising students in a four-year BS Construction Management program (accredited by the American Council for Construction Education – ACCE) and in two separate two-year AAS programs – Building Construction Technology and Civil Engineering Technology. Teaching assignments will be from a wide range of construction technology and construction management topics.

Courses are to be taught in person on one of Ferris State University's Campuses. The candidate(s) selected for the position must reside in Michigan after acceptance of employment.

The anticipated start date of this position is January 2025 at the earliest and August 2025 at the latest.

Required Education: 1. Master's degree in Construction Management, Construction Engineering, Construction Technology, or Civil Engineering, Architectural Engineering or appropriate related field AND five years full-time US construction experience (commercial or industrial).
OR
2. Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Construction Engineering, Construction Technology, Civil Engineering, Architectural Engineering or appropriate related field AND an MBA plus eight years full-time US construction experience (commercial or industrial) with increasing levels of responsibility OR
3. Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Construction Engineering, Construction Technology, Civil Engineering, Architectural Engineering or appropriate related field and eight years full-time US construction experience (commercial or industrial) with increasing levels of responsibility. A Master's degree in field or an approved related field will be required prior to tenure.
 
Required Work Experience: Required work experience is based on degree attained. See Required Education field.
Higher level degree (PhD) in Construction Management or closely-related degree requires five years full-time US construction experience (commercial or industrial).
If a candidate has a PhD in a closely related field, but not actually Construction Management, the Master's degree must be in Construction Management and five years full-time commercial or industrial construction experience is required

Additional Education/Experiences to be Considered: Preference will be given to candidates with strong industry experience in Mechanical/Electrical construction practices or BIM/VDC or heavy civil construction practices with a surveying focus.  
Essential Duties/Responsibilities: Teach full-time during the 9-month academic year. Full-time status is defined by the faculty contract with the university and currently is defined as 24 credit hours or 36 contact hours per academic year but may be limited by contact hours or student credit hours per the contract.

Teaching occurs face-to-face on the main campus in Big Rapids. There may be opportunities to teach at off-campus locations in the future or to take some courses online. Assignments are made based upon faculty expertise and faculty load.

Course assignments may include any course taught within the four-year degree sequence.

Recruitment of students (including Dawg Days, Admitted Student Days, visits to high schools or career tech centers, and other University-outreach events) will occur throughout the academic year and include some Saturdays.

Serve on program committees and represent the program on College and University committees.

Faculty members also have professional responsibilities which may include advising students, orientation and registration of students, participation in University committees, keeping regularly posted office hours (which are scheduled at times convenient for students), and participation in traditional functions which have academic significance (ex. reporting initial student participation data and submitting final grades on time). Faculty members may be required to teach off- campus or in an online environment.

Demonstrate an understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion, especially in working relationships with students, faculty, staff and community members.

Support, promote, and develop university student enrollment and retention initiatives.

Perform duties in accordance with established University policies.

Act as liaison between the program and professional organizations through active, individual involvement and, potentially as the program-appointed representative.

Enthusiastically support student success through active involvement with individual students and student organizations and student competitions, both within and outside of the classroom.

Remain current in the profession, both in content and licensure, if holding such licenses is considered important in the position.

The position reports to the Director of the School of Built Environment through the Program Coordinator.

Work with colleagues to develop new curricular initiatives and on accreditation documentation preparation.

Any other duties assigned within the position classification area.
